A total of 237 individuals participated on the Disaster Risk Reduction training held last January 2016 at the mountain barangays of Mahayag and Dongol, Ormoc City. Parents, teachers and CSWD (City Social Welfare Development) personnel attended the 8-session workshop conducted by HOPE entitled Community DRR Training on Family Level – Contingency Planning.
Some parents were very eager to learn because of their traumatic experience with typhoon Yolanda. The CSWDO-District 6 verbally and publicly expressed (to the parents and teachers) that they will require the pupils to have whistles along with their ID this school year as a way to prepare themselves from disasters. They got this idea from the DRR training.
